First documented in South Australia in the late 1900s from a chance seedling, and named for it's red colour and white lenticels, it has a noticeably softer texture than modern apples, and sweet, highly aromatic juice.
The side that face the sun typically develop a deep red-pink blush with water colour stripes, with the shadowed side often remaining more yellow-green.
It is best eaten fresh, made into apple sauce, or used in juicing. It is not typically used in baking due to the soft texture breaking down completely when baked.
NOTE: I have yet to try this apple directly, having only grafted it in 2021, and so have relied on others for information related to this variety.
This entry will be updated as the tree grows and bears.
